About Us

Our school was opened in 1967 to serve the north-east area of the town. Originally the school catered for children aged between five and eleven years. In 1972 the infant children were accomodated in an adjacent building with their own Headteacher. The Hilltop Schools who have separate governing bodies, continue to operate side by side and an excellent working partnership exists between the two schools.

The Hilltop Junior School building is of a modern spacious design with twelve attractive classrooms, a large hall, library and covered courtyard for individual and group teaching. A new extension with three classrooms, an ICT suite, disabled toilet and store area was completed May 2003. Three of the four relocatable classrooms, which had been been added to the school as the number of children attending Hilltop increased, have now been removed from the site.

The play areas surrounding the school consist of a hard surface playground, a lower patio area, a pave blocked area near the front entrance and landscaped grassed areas. Benches are positioned on the patio, play and grassed areas for the children to use.
